Printing is beyond what you think about printing!

Frequently Asked Questions

Trying to choose an overseas printer can feel like a daunting task. We’ve put a few things together to keep in mind. Whether you consider Pacom as your printer or
another group, these tips can help steer you into the right direction.

Q What should the printing company supply for me?
A

Samples of their work is crucial. An equipment list is important, to make sure they have the equipment your project will need. But samples will prove that they are adept at using that type of equipment. Plenty of printers are capable of producing a wide variety of projects, but samples will ensure that their craftsmanship with that type of equipment is up to your standards. The equipment list also shows their willingness to keep pace with the changing technology of the print world.

Q Who do I talk to?
A

The key to a successful offshore printing procedure is constant communication with your local representative and the company. A local representative will provide a clear understanding of the entire process. They should be accessible, clear and helpful.

Q Should I take the lowest price?
A

Realize that, in most cases, you get what you pay for. If your quote seems too good to be true, it probably is. There’s a difference between inexpensive and cheap. Evaluate all aspects of the purchasing triangle - Speed, Price, Quality and make sure you get the priorities correct.

Also, check to make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Frequently freight, sometimes proofs and other aspects are quoted separately, so make sure all specs are consistent over all quotes.

Q What kind of paper can you offer?
A

Depending on the types of paper required and quantity, paper sourcing turn around times vary. Pacom works with the largest paper mills in Korea. These paper mills provide the best in class, internationally accepted paper stocks. Pacom can also purchase paper outside of Korea, however this may result in extra turn around time requirements. Please check with us on special paper availability questions.

Q How long does it usually take?
A

Depending on prepress and shipping factors it usually takes between 6 to 10 weeks.

Q Who handles the shipping?
A

Be clear on your shipping/freight strategy. Your manufacturer can handle these logistics and pass the cost on to you, or you can employ a freight or customs broker. Whatever you decide, make sure you both are clear with who will handle it from door to door.

EX PLANT = your freight agent picks it up at the factory.
FOB = your freight agent takes it over at the port of departure.
CIF = your freight agent takes it over at the port of arrival.
DDP = Pacom handles the entire shipping to your door or warehouse.

Q What are the PDF settings I should use?
A

We've set up a page to discuss some of the best practices for making PDF files when sending to a printer. Please consult the Artwork Guidelines section of the Service Guide for more details.
