Capabilities

Printing is beyond what you think about printing!

Environmental Responsibility

Pacom recognizes that we live in an interconnected world, and thus need to be upstanding members of the global community.
Pacom continues to develop programs that focus on factory quality, efficiency and conservation.
All such programs are continuously monitored post-launch, and adjustments are constantly being made to reach the best possible outcome.

Pacom Green Management Policy Image
Green Management Policy

Pacom is constantly working to minimize its environmental footprint. This is embodied in our Green Management Policy:

  • Abide by Korean and international environment laws and regulations.

  • Educate and train our staff to ensure company-wide understanding of environmental preservation.

  • Continue to reduce paper waste and ensure paper recycle programs are operating at maximum capacity.

  • Increase performance and efficiency to minimize environmental burden.

  • Continue efforts to manage and conserve energy and resources throughout all our locations.

  • Work with shipping partners to improve shipping efficiency.

  • Share the efforts and results of our Green Management Policy with the public.

ISO 14001-Certified

ISO 14001 certification is an international standard for environmental management systems established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
An ISO certification signifies that an organization maps out a framework that a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system, and is constantly operating to enhance its systems.

Paper Sustainability[FSC™ C023083]

Pacom takes the issue of sustainable paper very seriously. Since 2008, Pacom has been certified in the FSC Chain of Custody program.
Information regarding the Chain of Custody certificate is available on the FSC organization website. https://fsc.org/

As stated from the website: “Between the forest and the final consumer, forest products may undergo many stages of processing, transformation, manufacturing and distribution. FSC Chain of Custody certification verifies that FSC certified material is identified or kept segregated from non-certified or non-controlled material through this chain. Mixing of FSC certified and non-certified products must be done under controlled procedures that meet the FSC Chain of Custody requirements.”

Soy oil-based inks with low levels of VOC

Instead of petrol-based inks containing volatile compounds, Pacom uses soy-based inks which are considerably more environmentally friendly. Traditional printing ink is petrol-based and contains solvents; in contrast, soy ink has substituted petrol for vegetable-based oils, thus eliminating volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which cause air pollution. Printing with soy-based inks, while currently a bit more expensive than traditional offset printing, is in line with the eco-friendly direction that many companies are pursuing currently.
All products printed with soy ink will be sealed with a mark labeled “Printed with Soy Ink.”

Printed with Soy Ink

The American Soybean Association (ASA) permits the use of the “Printed with Soy Ink” label for products printed with certified soy ink, pursuant to soy ink levels established by the ASA.

  • Black and white newspaper: over 40%

  • Color newspaper: over 30%

  • Carbon ink: over 25%

  • Offset ink: over 20%

  • UV ink: over 7%

  • Gravure ink: over 6%

  • Metallic ink: over 10%

Pacom’s Eco-Friendly UV Ink Printing Press

UV ink utilizes ultraviolet rays to create a photochemical reaction, hardening the ink from liquid to solid in a matter of seconds

As “going green” becomes a priority for more companies, UV ink is growing in popularity due to the fact that inks featuring solvents can present potential health complications for press operators.
UV ink does not contain solvents, has zero VOCs, and is environmentally friendly. Furthermore, traditional offset inks require time to dry, which requires the use of spray powder to prevent the still-wet ink from smudging the backside of printed sheets; UV ink eliminates the need for spray powder, further enhancing its eco-friendly aspects.

UV ink can be made even more eco-friendly by using soy oil as its base.

Environmentally friendly Offset Printing without Isopropyl Alcohol in Damping Solution

Environmentally friendly offset printing does not use isopropyl alcohol (IPA); this reduces harmful emissions which protects workers’ and clients’ health, and reduces the carbon footprint of print processes.

IPA is known to cause headaches, vomiting and loss of focus, and produces harmful emissions when exposed to sunlight or smog, damaging the ozone layer. Pacom uses presses from Manroland and Heidelberg which are equipped with DirectDrive alcohol-free printing mechanisms, to create an alcohol-free printing environment.

Efficient Print Areas

For each print run, the production team determines the optimal method to print the project with the least amount of paper waste. Depending on the print size and quantity, paper is calculated and often custom paper sizes must be ordered to make it as efficient as possible. This not only helps reduce overall production costs, it saves on waste when the print job is trimmed to size.

Paper Recycling Program

Pacom’s factory ceiling is set with large pipes. Paper trimmings during a production run is automatically pulled by high power vacuums and funneled into a repurposing staging area. The paper is compacted and wrapped for delivery to a recycling company. By doing this process we ensure the maximum amount of paper used for a project is consumed or re-purposed.

Chemistry Free Thermal CTP Plate

Pacom uses the Agfa Azura TS plate making system for our presses. Unlike conventional plate making systems, the Azura TS system does not require chemicals for the process. No water is required for the washing section which results in water savings as well. Waste treatment is lowered significantly.

Quick Dry Printing

Pacom works with Agfa on practicing a “Quick Dry” printing process. By doing so, the results are reduced printing accidents, reduce waste paper, less ink requirements, and longer roller life.

Switch to LED lights

For each print run, the production team determines the optimal method to print the project with the least amount of paper waste. Depending on the print size and quantity, paper is calculated and often custom paper sizes must be ordered to make it as efficient as possible. This not only helps reduce overall production costs, it saves on waste when the print job is trimmed to size.

Rooftop Garden

Pacom’s cafeteria is located on the roof of the factory building. As employees congregate for meals, they are welcomed by a rooftop garden. Last year, Pacom has developed a rooftop landscape to plant grass and trees. It helps to contribute to clean air and provides employee with a break space. It also has energy-saving effects, as it helps in controlling the humidity as well as reduceing heating and cooling energy cost.

Air Compressors

Pacom Korea has installed air compressors and by utilizing this equipment, we reduce the electricity consumption and simplify processes by using air instead of electricity for key parts of the printing process.

Solar Panels

Pacom has installed a solar generator system in its offices, reducing annual electricity use by 17%.
