"London Calling"
Dear all,
Greetings from PACOM! We are now nearly through the merry month of May--the month of family, as they say in Korea. With Children's Day and Parents' Day having passed (no separation of Mother's and Father's Day here), there was plenty of time for family gatherings in the first part of May--at least, that's the idea.
Of course, this means that nearly half the year is gone; the days are long but the months are short, or something like that. On to the news!
London
Last month, PACOM attended London Book Fair 2023 and had a delightful time meeting old friends and new clients. The spectre of COVID seems to be solidly behind us, as the Fair was bustling with people. We met with familiar faces and potential new clients, and got to see how the industry was moving along. While some may view printing as a somewhat analog industry in a digital world, we believe that analog has a future in contrast to the doomsayers. The many companies and people gathered in London provide testament to that, as many of the people we talked to mentioned that they had experienced rapid growth during the COVID times. Opportunity is simply a matter of searching, is the lesson I learned the most from this trip.
That, and that the famed London drizzle is just as advertised. The British like their trench coats for a reason, I found!
We look forward to next year, as well as future events ahead of us!
To and Fro
One of the signs that COVID is truly a distant memory is the influx of visitors at the PACOM facility. We've had visitors from Switzerland, the US and Japan visit us all during the May; we enjoyed the company of all of our visitors, and had many laughs and conversations alongside the usual business talk.
Our Swiss and US visitors were relatively new to Korea, and we had a delightful time not only introducing PACOM, but also serving as an introducer of Korea to our guests. Even though it's a globalized world, it can be somewhat daunting and unnerving to set foot in a country for the first time, especially if you're carrying out business vital to your company; we've taken this opportunity to also take a look at how we view this operation, and are working on ways to improve how we handle this important yet often missed part of conducting business.
In a somewhat mirror image of that, PACOM will be visiting the US in the first week of June to meet with clients scattered across the country. In addition to important matters of business, I am very much looking forward to some root beer--I find it excellent, although some have described it as "cough syrup in a can." Perhaps my palate is more American than most.
Holidays
May 29 is Buddha's Day, a national holiday in Korea. Unfortunately, forecasts call for rainstorms, but we'll manage.
Also, June 6th is Memorial Day, so another holiday upcoming--keep this in mind when attempting to contact us!
Machinery
We are constantly looking to expand PACOM's strategic portfolio; in that regard, PACOM will be looking to add a new piece of equipment later this year, which will greatly increase the type of projects we can handle. Stay tuned!
That's all for this edition of PACOM Update. Until next time!
